FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to wearable medical monitoring devices and more particularly to head-mounted systems for non-invasive measurement of blood-oxygen saturation using optical sensing of ocular blood vessels.

BACKGROUND

[0002] Non-invasive monitoring of blood-oxygen saturation is a critical component of physiological assessment in clinical and personal health settings. Blood-oxygen saturation, commonly expressed as SpO₂, reflects the percentage of hemoglobin molecules in the blood that are bound to oxygen. Accurate measurement of SpO₂ allows early detection of hypoxemia, supports the management of respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, and facilitates continuous health monitoring during physical exertion or in high-risk environments.

[0003] Conventional methods for measuring blood-oxygen saturation rely on pulse oximetry, which typically employs a sensor placed on a peripheral site such as a fingertip or earlobe. These devices emit light at two discrete wavelengths — typically red at approximately 660 nm and infrared at approximately 940 nm — through the tissue and detect the intensity of transmitted light.

[0004] Pulse oximeters operate under the assumption that the measured tissue volume is relatively stable and that the optical path through the tissue is consistent. However, peripheral sites are subject to motion artifacts, poor perfusion, and environmental
