Side-by-Side Editor
Open the side-by-side editor to draft claims and specs simultaneously. Claims appear on the right, specs on the left. This lets you work on both without switching windows.

Claims Editor
Begin writing your claims directly in the editor. Auto-numbering is applied automatically. To turn it off: go to Settings → Toggle Auto-numbering Off. Claims will stay in sequence, just without ordinal numbering.

Specs Editor
Press the slash key " / " to open the insert menu. Search for patent sections, boilerplates, or text snippets. Type and select what you need to insert. This keeps drafting fast and consistent.

In-Line Comments
In the claims editor, type a hash symbol “#” at the start of a line. In the specs editor, wrap text in double brackets “[[ ]]”. Comments remain in Patcraft and will not export.

AI Claim Analysis
Patcraft’s AI analyzes claim language in real-time. The terms panel updates automatically as you write. Click any term in the panel to highlight all its instances across claims and specs. Abbreviations are detected and grouped with the original term.

Managing Terms
Add a term: highlight text → click Add Term. Delete a term: click the X icon in the panel. Edit a term: click the pencil icon, update the text, and save.

Click “Claim Tree” at the top to visualize the claim set into claim trees. Hover over a node in a claim tree to see the entire text for that claim.

Generating Literal Support
Press “/” to create a Brief Summary. Add Regenerative Support. Click Regenerate Spec → Patcraft generates literal support automatically. If claims change, click regenerate again. AI “hallucinations” are flagged with in-line comments for review.

Assigning Claims to Detailed Description
Copy elements from an independent claim to create headings. Select which claims to assign under each heading (dependent claims selected by default). Click Assign → Apply to Detailed Description. Patcraft inserts headings and literal support, giving you a skeleton to expand into paragraphs.

Click the dropdown next to Generate Spec. Choose which sections you want started. Click Apply or Generate Spec. Repeat as needed to fill out or refresh parts of the spec based on the claims.

Find & Replace
Click the find-replace bar → gear icon → Find and Replace. In the popup, choose a section from the dropdown. Enter your find/replace terms and apply.

Figures
Draw or insert figures in Patcraft’s Figure tool. Add to the spec by: Clicking Figures → Select Figure, or typing "@" in the spec to open the figure menu. To sync figure order: click Sync Order.

Cross-Reference Existing Numerals
Go to Settings → Numeral Labels. In the window that opens, select the figure you want to edit. Click the pencil icon next to the numeral. From the dropdown menu, change that numeral into a cross-reference to an existing numeral.

Click Boilerplates → + to add and save boilerplate text. Insert with Use or quickly with the / key in the specs editor.

When finished, choose Export → Microsoft Word. Your draft opens in Word, ready to send to a client or the patent office.
